Galapagos Islands
June 2007
it was quite humbling to be among the galapagos tortoises - the oldest living sentient beings. some of them had scars on their shells from being shot at by explorers over a century ago... i once read somewhere that in theory, these creatures could live for multiple centuries if they were in a completely sterile, safe environment. would be quite boring, i think.
(found a load of old photos i'd forgotten about; expect to see more of this kind of thing)
